What is a radiologist?
Your radiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in using medical imaging techniques to help diagnose disease and injury. He or she graduated from an accredited medical school, passed a state licensing exam and completed at least four years of post-graduate medical education in a residency. EVDI’s radiologists are all Board certified, and many have completed additional post-residency fellowships in a subspecialty area. The radiologist will read your images and provide a report to your referring provider.
What is a technologist?
Your technologist is the person who performs your study using the imaging equipment. It’s the technologist’s job to prepare you for your exam, position you in the equipment and obtain the images of your body that will help the radiologist and the referring provider diagnose the potential medical problem. Your technologist has been educated through formal training programs to utilize the equipment and to understand anatomy, physics, radiation and other subjects related to radiology. However, your technologist cannot make any diagnosis and therefore, he or she cannot explain any findings from your study.
Can I just walk into any of your centers for my exam?
X-rays are performed on a walk-in basis at all of our multi-modality centers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You do not need an appointment for X-rays, although you can make one for your convenience by calling the center directly. X-rays are not performed at our Desert Breast Center locations. Other exams (such as MRI, ultrasound or mammography) are performed only on an appointment basis. Please call 480-456-9000 to schedule your appointment or request an appointment online. You must have an order from a physician or other health care provider.
How do I prepare for my exam?
When you schedule an appointment with EVDI, our friendly schedulers will provide you with any preparations you need to make for your exam. For instances, sometimes exams require you not to eat or drink for several hours or drink water prior to your appointment. If you have any questions prior to arriving, please feel free to contact our schedulers at 480-456-9000, or call the site where you are scheduled directly. Our staff will be happy to answer any questions you have. You can also download patient forms in advance and bring them with you.
Does my exam require prior authorization from my insurance company?
EVDI does not require authorization prior to scheduling an exam, nor do we know the benefits and requirements of your specific health care insurance plan. Plans vary widely, so it is best to contact your insurance company before you have your exam so that you are knowledgeable about any requirements for prior authorization or any deductibles or copays that you might have.
What if I’m claustrophobic and I need an MRI?
EVDI offers several options for patients who are claustrophobic. We have an open MRI at our Gilbert center, we have MRI goggles at our East Mesa center that allow you to watch a DVD during your procedure, and we offer nurse-supervised sedation at our Chandler, East Mesa and Tempe facilities if needed. Please let our schedulers know if you need one of these options.
When will I receive my results?
EVDI will send your results to your doctor or health care provider very quickly, usually within a day or so. However, your provider’s office will prioritize your results and follow their procedure for communicating those results to you.
If you have a screening mammogram, you will also receive a letter in the mail approximately two weeks after your exam explaining the results. If you are having a diagnostic mammogram, you will receive an explanation of your results from our breast imaging radiologists at the time of your appointment.
